Card Problems

Your meal card cannot be used by another person. Present your ID card at every meal. Please refrain from taking food or drinks from the dining hall. Please return all trays, glasses, china and silver to the dishroom.

Shirt and shoes must be worn in the dining halls.

ROYAL CARD

The remaining balance in your Royal Card Account will appear on the cash register or card reader display each time you use it. After the purchase is keyed in, your card is swiped through the register or reader and the amount of purchase is instantly deducted from your account via the magnetic strip on the back of the card.

CARD PROBLEMS

Occasionally a Royal Card cannot be read by the card readers, most often because the magnetic strip on the back has been damaged or the data encoded on it has become scrambled. The card should be returned to the Royal Card Office immediately for re-encoding. Cards should be kept away from magnets, stereos, televisions, computers or anything that may have magnetic activity to avoid damage.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

Q.

Why do I have to show my ID-card every time I enter the dining room?

A.

Your ID card identifies you as a meal contract holder. When you present your card at each meal, your participation in that respective meal is tabulated. This information is useful to us. If your card is lost or stolen, it protects you from the unauthorized use of your meal plan.

Q.

If I lose my ID card, what should I do?

A.

Contact the Royal Card Office in St. Thomas Hall. There is a charge for replacing lost ID cards.

Q.

What if I forgot my ID card?

A.

If you forgot your meal card, you must get a meal card pass from the Dining Services office on the 3rd floor. One free pass will be issued per student per semester. After that there will be a $5.00 charge for each additional pass. You will need identification with your name to receive the pass.

Q.

Why can't my friend use my ID card when I'm out of town? Someone might as well use it since the meals are paid for.

A.

First, no one but yourself can use your ID card. This is necessary to prevent fraud and to provide safety for all students. Many ID cards have access to Residence Halls and many have large Royal Card account balances. These important privileges must be safeguarded.

Secondly, Meal Plan prices are based on actual meals served, not on meals available. If allowances were made for transferability of meals the cost of the plans would go up. Only the cardholder may use any or all of the meals available in the selected meal plan.
