Academic Attire

To participate in the Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Ceremony, all graduates must wear proper academic attire: robe for Mass; caps, gowns, and hoods for Commencement. The charge for the academic attire is included in the graduation fee. Distribution of academic attire and announcements will take place in the DeNaples Center Ballroom during the following times:

April 20, 2009 (Monday) 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
April 21, 2009 (Tuesday) 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

After April 21 distribution of academic attire will take place at the University Bookstore in the DeNaples Center. Normal Bookstore hours are:

Monday - Thursday:   9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Friday:   9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Saturday:   10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Bookstore hours for Senior Week are:

Monday - Thursday:   9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Friday:   9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Saturday:   9:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Male candidates for Master's degrees should wear suit coats under their academic gowns due to the shortness of the sleeve length. Since the sleeves on doctoral robes are longer, suit coats for male doctoral candidates are optional. Both masters and doctoral candidates will find it helpful to bring a hair or hat pin to help secure the academic cap.

If you are away doing an internship or you will not attend Commencement and would like your cap and gown and announcements mailed to you (U.S. addresses only), please send a written request with a check for $5.00 to cover shipping and handling to:

University of Scranton Bookstore
DeNaples Center
900 Mulberry Street
Scranton, PA 18503

Be sure to include your height and weight as well as your name and address. Requests should be received by May 1, 2009 to insure sufficient time for shipment.

If you need your cap and gown sent to an address outside the United States, please contact the Bookstore Manager at (570) 941-7454 prior to graduation to make arrangements.
